The Survivor's Purge was an event of mass Shokugeki events that dictated what research societies and seminars would be allowed to remain active under Azami's new curriculum.

Overview[]

After Azami Nakiri became the director of Tōtsuki, he called for the disbandment of all research societies and seminars in order to fit his idea that everyone would be able to cook the same dishes. Naturally, the members of said RS's and seminars were extremely distraught at the idea of loosing their beloved clubs. Thus, hundreds of students sent requests for a Shokugeki, mostly to Etsuya Eizan, with the stipulation that in the case of their victory their club would remain active. Annoyed by all the requests, Etsuya decided to send a message to them and accepted the first request, from Tetsuji Kabutoyama; the leader of Skewer RS. However, unbeknownst to Tetsuji, Etsuya had bribed the judges and won without either dish being tasted. Causing Skewer RS to shut down and Tetsuji to get expelled. Seeing that no matter what they did their Shokugeki would end in losing, and with the threat of being expelled, all other students revoked their requests and accepted defeat. That was until Sōma Yukihira challenged Etsuya to a Shokugeki in order to keep Polar Star Dormitory on campus. A battle he managed to win due to the aroma of his dish caused the judges to actually try it, and name Sōma the victor. His victory gave the other students hope that they could actually keep their clubs alive. Satoshi Isshiki also made a new set of rules that Central had to follow with the Shokugeki, which he dubbed the "Isshiki Rules". The Isshiki Rules stated that all judges for the Shokugeki had to be selected of a neutral party and Central members were not allowed to decline any request. This ultimately led to the mass Shokugeki events known as the Survivor's Purge.

Shokugeki Format[]

The format for the Shokugeki were the same as any other. Most of the Central representatives were lesser members, though there were some battles where the Central representative was a member of the Elite Ten. The club representatives were likely the best cooks in their respective clubs, which in most cases would be the leader. But even though most were manned by lesser Central members and most of the club reps were leaders of their clubs, the outcome was for the most part the same all around. Almost every Shokugeki ended in an organization's disbandment, due to Central being comprised of the best chefs the academy had to offer. And, to add insult to injury, the members of Central allowed their opponents to select the theme for their battle, in order to humiliate them by defeating them with the same skills they spent their whole school career honing. On the first day of the Shokugeki, Central had a 32 win streak and likely had the same sort of streak in the following days. The only organization known to have not participated was the Shiomi Seminar.

Clubs that Remained Active[]

  • Cutting-Edge Cooking RS - Originally set to be disbanded due to Alice Nakiri not having any objections to the disbandment, a Shokugeki did occur after Rentarō Kusunoki insulted Ryō Kurokiba. The theme was salmon. Rentarō used a couple high-tech equipment to heat his ingredients, and, despite Ryō fighting on behave of the Cutting-Edge Cooking RS, he never actually used cutting-edge equipment. Though that didn't matter as Ryō's Salmon Coulibiac managed to beat Rentarō's Saumon Confit Flamme. This was the first victory for the RS's and only victory on the first day.
  • Local Cuisine RS - The Shokugeki was between Megumi Tadokoro and Shigemichi Kumai. They likely had to use locally grown vegetables in their dishes, it is unknown if an ingredient in particular was chosen or not. It is unknown what either chef made (Though in the opening scene it is shown that Megumi probably made a sort of stew), however, Megumi's dish managed to be better than Shigemichi's dish, leading to her victory.
  • Don RS - The Shokugeki was between Ikumi Mito and Mea Yanai. They likely had to make a donburi dish with some sort of meat (Given how both are Ikumi's specialties). It is unknown what either chef made, but Ikumi managed to win the battle with her dish.
  • Miyazato Seminar - The Shokugeki was between Zenji Marui and Rui Kofuru. It is completely unknown what the theme was, as the seminar didn't focus on one thing in particular and thus could be anything. It is unknown what either chef made, however Zenji managed to score a 2-1 victory over Rui.
  • Chinese Cuisine RS - It is unknown if it was actually disbanded or not, but it is extremely likely that is was as Azami didn't pull any punches when it came to making things fit his ideology. Though, given how the members still seem to be together as a team, it is possible that Terunori Kuga managed to win his Shokugeki against an unknown Central member. If that were the case, the theme was likely Sichuan cuisine.
