“ | Even if I'm stripped down to nothing but a loincloth, I will never give up enjoying my cooking to the fullest![1] | ” |
— Satoshi Isshiki, expressing his enjoyment for cooking. |
Satoshi Isshiki (
Originally introduced as the Seventh Seat, but for not assisting Azami Nakiri to become the new Director of Totsuki Culinary Academy, Satoshi lost his seat. He eventually regained it at the end of Regimental Shokugeki, achieving the second highest rank among the Elite Ten.
Satoshi serves as the major ally to the protagonists for the Totsuki First Years and Central storyline.
Appearance[]
Satoshi is a handsome young man with curly, medium-length brown hair with an ahoge. His cyan blue eyes are sometimes closed or half-open, displaying his carefree and benevolent attitude.
While he wears the standard Totsuki uniform at times, he most often appears in the nude, wearing nothing but an apron or assorted undergarments, even while under the hot sun in the Polar Star Garden. Satoshi only wears his full uniform during important events, such as an Elite Ten Council meeting or a school function. When conducting business meetings, Satoshi wears a fully dressed suit.
Satoshi seemingly has the ability to instantly switch from his usual school uniform to his fundoshi, much to everyone's shock.
When he cooks, in a formal setting, he wears a hunter green kimono with a white apron, befitting his Japanese cuisine specialty.
Personality[]

Satoshi's cheerful personality
Satoshi is the representative for the Polar Star Dormitory and best embodies what the dorm represents; quirky, spontaneous, and rebellious. He cares deeply for his fellow residents at the dorm, defending them when people look down on them. He is very comical and silly and is a naturist, which often comes as a shock for those who enter the Polar Star Dormitory for the first time. Despite his skill, the former Sixth Seat of the Elite Ten, Nene Kinokuni cites that his lack of ambition or outward drive is the reason why she held a higher seat than him, despite her clear admittance that he is a better chef than she.

Satoshi as a supportive upperclassmen
Behind his benevolence and slack personality, however, is a serious and cunning opponent. Satoshi tends to hold back during casual challenges against opponents clearly under his skill level. His focus and tenacity made him an Elite Ten member and his cooking skills and cunning tactics kept him there. Despite this, however, he is reluctant to accept any Shokugeki challenged to him by his fellow Polar Star dorm mates. Satoshi knows his juniors better than anyone and expresses unconditional faith in their abilities.

Satoshi losing his cool
During challenges and Shokugekis, Satoshi remains cool and nonchalant, completely ignoring all insults thrown at him. However, should someone insult the Polar Star or its residents, Satoshi becomes incredibly serious and shows very little mercy to his opponents. Even when he has assured victory over an opponent, he will not stop pestering them until they properly apologize.
Satoshi also does not like to be restricted in his cooking, and he refuses to follow his family's traditional styles and instead, creates a unique methodology unique to him which leads to him being criticized by other chefs and being rejected by his family, but Satoshi could care less about their opinions and continues his preferred style.
History[]

Satoshi being pressured to be good at everything by his clan's elders
Satoshi was born as the eldest son of the prestigious Isshiki family, a clan that has run a traditional Japanese restaurant in Gion, Kyoto since the Muromachi period. Satoshi was trained in culinary arts at a very young age, and he quickly learned everything they taught him. However, his childhood suffered from extreme pressure and suffocation as a kid from his family who keeps pushing him to train and train, only thinking of themselves and their clan. For Satoshi, cooking was just something that exists and he had no feelings about it.

Satoshi and Nene's first meeting
At the age of 4, the next heir to the Isshiki family is sent to one of their clan's various allies across Japan to develop their culinary skills. Satoshi was sent to the Kinokuni family as a result and grew up with the family heiress, Nene Kinokuni, who was the same age as him. While their initial relationship was cordial, Nene became increasingly frustrated with Satoshi when she noticed that he was able to match her skill in nearly everything that she was trained to do in a short period of time.
During his stay with the Kinokuni family, Satoshi witnessed a young Nene training her skills with enthusiasm. Seeing her, Satoshi realizes that cooking might be fun, as her cooking brings happiness to others, and Satoshi wanted that type of cooking.

Young Satoshi and Nene competing with each other in various things
Upon entering the Polar Star Dormitory, Satoshi passed Fumio's entrance exam on his first try. During his Tōtsuki Friendship and Rapport Training Camp, he was the first person to complete the 50 meal assignment and personally met and bonded with Gin Dōjima at the bath, earning Gin's respect. As a second year, Satoshi completed the Stagiaire event and was present at the Autumn Leaf Viewing event for the 91st generation, signifying that he had participated in the Autumn Election the previous year. Sometime before the end of his first year, Satoshi entered the Elite Ten Council, eventually earning himself Seventh Seat.
At some point in his youth, Satoshi's insistence to his cooking style, which mashes up multiple genre into one, has earned the ire of his family, and he became the reject of the Isshiki family.

Totsuki First-Years Storyline[]
Introduction Arc[]

Satoshi and the rest of Polar Star tenants welcomes Sōma
Sometime after the start of his second year, a new 92nd Generation student applied for a room in Polar Star and was granted a room. This boy was Sōma Yukihira. After Sōma prepared himself for bed, Satoshi made a sudden appearance in his room through the ceiling panel. Satoshi invited him to Zenji's room for his welcoming party. At the party, Satoshi formally welcomed Sōma into Polar Star and the party went under full swing, especially once Satoshi displayed his "wearing-an-apron-only" gag. After a few hours, most of the residents at the party either left or had fallen asleep. Only Satoshi, Sōma, and Shun remained awake. Satoshi offered to cook a dish for Sōma, which he accepted. After handing Sōma his Pepper-Grilled Seer Fish with Spring Cabbage Puree, Sōma took a bite and was instantly blown away by the fresh flavor of his dish. Satoshi revealed that he was the current Seventh Seat in the Elite Ten Council. He then challenged Sōma to make him a dish of his own.[4]

Satoshi revealed that he's a member of Elite Ten, holding the 7th Seat
Sōma responded with his own mackerel dish, a Revised Seer Fish Rice Ball Chazuki, which impressed the three of them. Satoshi wondered how Sōma knew how to cook using the French technique Poêlée, in which Sōma told him that he had learned it from his father. Impressed, Satoshi shook his hand and declared the duel a draw, which Sōma accepted. As he cleaned up, Sōma surprised Satoshi by asking how he could enter the Elite Ten Council and if he would have claimed Satoshi's seat if he had won. When Satoshi brushed off the comment with a smile, Sōma dropped the matter.[5]

Satoshi impressed by Sōma's skills
The next morning, Satoshi and the others entered the dinning room where Sōma had been waiting all morning to challenge Satoshi for his Elite Ten seat. Satoshi, however, declined the challenge and informed Sōma about the formal cooking duels at Totsuki: the Shokugeki. Satoshi informed him that because he was not willing to accept the duel and the fact that a loss against Satoshi would cost Sōma more than just his place in Totsuki, the duel was not feasible. Reluctantly, Sōma accepted the fact that he could not challenge Satoshi at the time. Later, when most of the others were leaving for school, Satoshi looked down from the balcony and wondered how Sōma managed to stand toe-to-toe with him. Shun walked in on him and stated that Satoshi did not use any of his signature dishes for the duel. Satoshi jested that he did put in an honest effort into the dish and Sōma's skill was not unfounded. However, it was implied that Satoshi held back a great deal, which Shun stated at loud to Satoshi.[6]
Training Camp Arc[]

Satoshi and the rest of Polar Star enjoying Megumi's dish
Sometime after Sōma's first Shokugeki, Satoshi gathered the Polar Star residents into the garden behind the dormitory to work the fields. After a long day at work, news had arrived from the Academy to notify the 92nd Generation about their first hurdle during their lives at Totsuki: the Tōtsuki Friendship and Rapport Training Camp. Satoshi informed them that the camp was brutal and would significantly reduce the class size, even mentioning that an entire class was down half of its members at the end of the camp. Although most were nervous about the camp, Satoshi gave them his full confidence and was sure that they would all return to the dormitory.[7]

Satoshi is plagued with nightmares during the 92nd Training Camp week
While the 92nd Generation was at the camp, Satoshi was plagued with nightmares. His dreams involved mainly drastic changes in everyone's personality and, even worse, that Zenji literally would not survive the camp. Satoshi prayed that they would find the strength to make it through.[8] Much to his delight, everyone in Polar Star completed the camp and returned at the end of that week.
Karaage Wars Arc[]

Satoshi get ready for the upcoming meeting between the Elite Ten
Sometime after the training camp, the students were given a long weekend off and could go home if they wanted. However, Satoshi remained in the dormitory to care for the plants and perform his duties for the Elite Ten Council.[9]
During that long weekend, the Elite Ten members gathered together to decided on the first-years that will be participating in the upcoming Totsuki Autumn Election. On his way in, Satoshi told Etsuya that it's time to go the meeting. He received an annoyed response from the Ninth Seat, finding the meeting tedious, but Satoshi replied that it's an important responsibility that they must do.[10]
Totsuki Autumn Election Arc[]

Satoshi playing ping pong against Megumi
After the break, Satoshi gathered everyone in the backroom for a friendly ping pong competition. Much to everyone's surprise, Megumi and Satoshi were extremely skilled ping pong players. Megumi almost won the match, but was thwarted as Satoshi decided to distract her by divulging an upcoming event at the school. Satoshi informed everyone that Megumi, Sōma, Zenji, and Shun had been selected to participate in the 43rd Annual Tōtsuki Autumn Election. Although Ryōko and Yūki were disheartened to know that they were not selected, Satoshi informed them that there was still twenty spots that needed to be filled. Later that day, Satoshi and Megumi were walking together and talking about the upcoming Totsuki Autumn Election, though Satoshi didn't give any confidential information to his junior, he, however, talked about the chef that's currently working on the rough draft of the competition, which is the Ninth Seat, Etsuya .[11]

Satoshi distracts Megumi by revealing that she will be on Autumn Election
Meanwhile, the Elite Ten Council was finalizing the last participants for the elections. Erina Nakiri, the 10th seat, protested the inclusion of Sōma, but most of the council already decided that Sōma's worthiness was already confirmed. Satoshi defended Sōma's inclusion and, much to his surprise, so did Etsuya, the Ninth Seat. Several days later, the formal reveal of the participants for the Election took place. True to his word, Ryōko and Yūki were selected to participate, meaning that most of the Polar Star 92nd Generation residents would participate in the election.[12]

Satoshi introduces himself to Joichiro
After returning to the dormitory after the Autumn Election, Sōma asked Satoshi about Etsuya, who had confronted him earlier. Satoshi told Sōma that Etsuya was a dangerous person to cross and that he should be careful when dealing with him. As everyone entered the kitchen, a mysterious man was busy cooking. Fumio Daimidō introduced the man as Joichiro Saiba, a former Polar Star Resident and Second Seat. Sōma threw in a curveball when he revealed that Joichiro was his father. Joichiro then prepared a lavish feast for the Polar Star residents to enjoy, where Satoshi took the time to formally introduce himself to Joichiro.[13]

Satoshi and Joichiro talking about Sōma
Later that night, Satoshi and Joichiro talks about the latter's son, with the former admitted that he never thought that there would be a relation with each other due to their differences. Joichiro acknowledged this and also claimed that Sōma is not like the institute's elite students since he only taught his son the skills run a family dinner. Satoshi agreed but also retorted that Sōma has the skill to be the central figure of the academy. Satoshi then spoke to Joichiro and learned much of Sōma's source of strength. It was not an innate talent, but Sōma's courage and ability to push through trial and error to get where he wants to. Satoshi kept this in mind as he too began pondering more about Sōma's uniqueness.[14]

Satoshi feels refreshed by Sōma's dish
The next morning, Satoshi went into the kitchen after working in the garden. There he found Sōma and Joichiro about to have a cooking duel. Upon seeing the lack of judges, Satoshi, along with Fumio and Megumi, volunteered. Needing to attend to not only his needs but also Megumi's, Satoshi set the theme of the match as a revitalizing breakfast. Sōma completed his dish first, an Apple Risotto. The sweetness of the apples blended perfectly with the risotto, impressing the three judges.[15]

Satoshi and Fumio's reaction to Joichiro's breakfast dish
However, Joichiro stepped up with his Joichiro's Special Kotteri Ramen. Despite the heavy stereotype associated with ramen, Joichiro's ramen was surprisingly light and hearty, perfect for not only Megumi, but also Satoshi. The three judges unanimously declared Joichiro the winner. Satoshi told Sōma that his dish, while delicious, was not nearly as filling. Nevertheless, Satoshi smiled as he realized the source of Sōma's drive to cook.[16]
After Joichiro's departure, one by one, most of the Polar Star residents returned home to craft their dishes for the Autumn Election. Sōma was among the few who stayed behind and Satoshi observed him as he was crafting his dish over the break. Near the end of the break, Satoshi had walked into Sōma's room to see him asleep on the floor with a bowl of spices nearby. With a single glance, Satoshi saw potential in his current blend and looked forward to seeing Sōma's performance in the preliminaries.[17]

Satoshi watching the tournament at Hall B
Satoshi arrived at the Totsuki Arena shortly before the start of the preliminaries to escort the main judge for the "B" Block, Orie Sendawara. Orie began trying to recruit Satoshi to work for her, but he politely declined. During the Preliminaries for the "B" Block, Orie began to look for standout students. One of them was Megumi, however, she judged her based on her initial clumsiness, deeming her a boring student compared to the others. Satoshi warned her not to be so presumptuous in her judgement.[18] Soon after, Megumi showed her potential by preparing a hanging goosefish, causing Orie to stand up. As Orie departed to try and get a closer look, Satoshi smiled at Megumi.[19]
Later during the judging round, Satoshi continued to watch Megumi as she presented her dish to the judges. Without needing to try her dish himself, Satoshi knew that Megumi had made a special dish that showed everyone her true strength. Satoshi smiled as Megumi was able to close out the "B" Block with a score of 88, qualifying her for the main tournament.[20]

Satoshi praises Sōma's dish
After the "B" Block ended, Satoshi decided to go to the "A" Block along with Fumio to watch the end of the judging round. It just so happened that it was Sōma's turn to present at that time and, in the viewing booth, Erina was there as he arrived.[21] Sōma's dish, the Curry Risotto Omurice, was well received by the judges. Satoshi and Fumio noticed that Sōma's dish was a combination of his Mini Soufflé Omelette and his Apple Risotto. Satoshi figured that Sōma disliked the feeling of failure of those dishes and combined them together to create his dish. Although Sōma did not have the best score overall, he ended with a 93, tying for second.[22]

Satoshi ready to go to DEF Kitchen
After the conclusion of the preliminaries Satoshi returned to Polar Star to celebrate Sōma and Megumi's qualification to the Main Tournament. Later in the evening, Satoshi approached Sōma and Megumi, asking if they could help him with a special job the next day. The two woke up the next morning and to their surprise, Satoshi was in a full business suit.[23] The trio left the campus and arrived at the DEF Kitchen. Inside, Satoshi left Sōma and Megumi to supervise the children's cooking class since the teacher had injured herself. Satoshi, in the meantime, went to instruct the class comprised of housewives.[24]
The day before the Main Tournament, Satoshi waited at the Elite Ten building to inform the Main Tournament participants of their opponents and food theme for their matches. The first to arrive was Sōma, who found out that he was challenging Alice Nakiri to a bento themed match.[25] Shortly afterwards, Megumi arrived second and found out her opponent was Ryō Kurokiba. Because their match was ramen-themed, Satoshi informed them that the school would provide the noodles, but they would need to decide what kind of noodles they wished to use.[26] Satoshi spent most of the tournament watching the matches.
It was not until the Semifinals that Satoshi is seen again, where he accompanied Senzaemon Nakiri, and wishes him to be the judge for the Finals.[27]

Satoshi, alongside Erina and Etsuya, listens to Gin Dojims's proposal for the final match
After the conclusion of the semifinal match between Ryō and Akira, in which the judges could not pick a decisive winner, Gin Dojima proposed a special circumstance for the Finals. Satoshi merely joked at Gin, saying that he knew that they could make it like a Shokugeki and have another semifinal rematch later. Gin, however, picked up on Satoshi's quip and suggested a three-way duel between Sōma, Akira, and Ryō.[28] The motion was accepted by Senzaemon himself and the Finals was set in 10 days. Shortly afterwards, Satoshi brought out the next seasonal ingredient in a huge ice cube and broke it with a sledgehammer, revealing that Pacific Saury would be the theme for the Finals.[29]

Satoshi lectures Etsuya about Sōma
During the finals, Satoshi confronted Etsuya[30], who he knew rigged the Semifinal match-ups so Sōma would face Subaru Mimasaka and end Sōma's career should he lose that Shokugeki. Satoshi even knew that Etsuya had been rigging the Totsuki Sport newspaper to purposefully lampoon Sōma in every article about him. Satoshi taunted Etsuya, saying that despite his best efforts to trap Sōma, Sōma had countered him all on his own.[31]
Satoshi explained that Sōma lacked the mental block that stops people from situations that seem impossible to challenge. Although Sōma did not win the tournament in the end, Satoshi could feel the tide of Totsuki changing thanks to Sōma's unrelenting courage against the geniuses of his class.[32]
Stagiaire Arc[]

Satoshi is delighted to see his juniors cooking
After the conclusion of the Autumn Election, life returned to normal for the Polar Star residents. Satoshi is pleasant to see his underclassmen cooking happily, though the situation shows otherwise. The students will then talk about Sōma's whereabouts where it explained that he is likely in Hayama's place, Satoshi explain that Sōma is doing it to improve himself, learning from the one who defeated him. Satoshi then would mentioned that his juniors should be prepare because in the next few days as the Stagiaire Challenge will begin, a task that every first-years must undergo to, being an intern in another chef's restaurant and leaves a visible mark.[33]

Moon Banquet Festival Arc[]

Satoshi and other members of the Elite Ten watching Sōma's Shokugeki battles
At the end of four weeks, Satoshi was pleased to see that most of Polar Star had returned. However, he immediately noticed that Zenji was not with them. To make matters worse, Shun was holding Zenji's broken glasses. Although he instantly assumed the worst, a decrepit looking Zenji appeared from behind, relieving Satoshi. Ryōko asked Shun how his Stagiaire event went, to which he replied that he did what he usually does. Satoshi and Ryōko, on the other hand, thought otherwise. Once everyone learned that Sōma was participating in a Shokugeki, they quickly made their way to the Arena. After Sōma provoked everyone in the audience, Satoshi watched from the stands.[34]

Satoshi arrived at the Autumn Leaf Viewing
Some time after the Shokugeki's, Satoshi was explaining to Sōma and Megumi about the Autumn Leaf Viewing event. He clarified that it was simply an opportunity for the top first year students to interact with the senior Elite Ten Council members, allaying Megumi's fear that it might be another expulsion event. He later arrived at the venue with the other members of the Council, where his juniors were already waiting. After some of his peers start bickering amongst themselves, Satoshi asked cheerfully if it was alright to start the toast, causing them to start yelling at him, though he remained unfazed.[35]

Satoshi explains to Sōma the Elite Ten's privileges
When the First Seat, Eishi Tsukasa, expressed his complain when Sōma, Takumi, and Subaru all got involved in Shokugeki, Satoshi brought up the suggestion that he should just leave the paperwork to other Elite Ten members, and he became the event's host instead, but was immediately rejected. Later on, Satoshi, alongside Terunori and Eishi, also explained to Sōma what makes the Elite Ten above all other students.[36]

Satoshi invited Sōma to join his booth
When Sōma returned to the dorm, Satoshi welcomed him and stated that he was waiting for him. The Seventh Seat revealed that he was planning to put a booth for the Moon Banquets Festival with the members of Polaris dorm, but Sōma apparently made plans already, and that involves going against the Eight Seat, Terunori Kuga. When Sōma asked what the Booth Area was for, Satoshi kindly answered, briefing him of the three types of area that will be present in the festival. When Sōma officially revealed his booth was next to Terunori and also doing Chinese food, Satoshi just laughed, saying he expected him to do it.[37]

Satoshi revealed to Sōma his booth
Few weeks before the festival, Satoshi and the Polaris dorm members has officially stared building their booth, which they show off to Sōma, an outdoor banquet. Satoshi, on his loincloth, with his axe aimed to create a river that will complement the booth, surprising Sōma who realized that he will dig the land himself.[38]
At the day of the festival, Satoshi is present at the opening ceremony and later on, passionately sang the school's anthem.[39] The first day of the festival then come to an end, and Satoshi's booth is revealed to in the seventh rank among all the booths in the Uptown Area.[40]
Central Arc[]

Satoshi starts the banquet for Erina
After the conclusion of the Festival, Totsuki received a shift in leadership as Senzaemon Nakiri was replaced by Azami Nakiri as the new headmaster of the academy. Satoshi and three of the other Elite Ten Council members voted against the proposed change in leadership.[41] When asked by his underclassmen what happened, Satoshi stated that he was surprised that Azami managed to become the dean but then explain it the legal measures have been followed accordingly. Satoshi then mentioned that Azami's acceptance speech should about to start.[42]
When Erina Nakiri ran away from her home — courtesy of Alice — and somehow made it in the Polaris dorm, Satoshi welcomed the Tenth Seat by hosting a party, a perfect chance as Erina haven't had dinner yet.[43]

Satoshi shows his trust to Sōma
After taking control of the school, Azami decreed that all Research Societies and Seminars be shut down. Additionally, Polar Star Dormitory, as an independent entity on campus grounds, was forced to close as well. Despite hearing that Sōma had decided to battle Etsuya in a Shokugeki to preserve his dorm, Satoshi felt no need to watch the match nor help with the defense back at the dorm. In fact, when Rindo asked him if he was concerned for his dorm mates, Satoshi asserted his confidence in Sōma and even completely predicted how the Shokugeki would go down.[44]
After Sōma's victory, Satoshi returned to the dorm to inform the others that Sōma's victory gave the numerous Research Societies and Seminars the opportunity to fight in fair Shokugekis to reverse their forced disbandment. Upon hearing this, the dorm celebrated in the usual Polar Star fashion, including Satoshi's usual naked apron gag, much to Hisako and Erina's complete shock.[45]

Satoshi faces Azami and asked the reason for his arrival
When Azami Nakiri made a sudden visit at the Polaris dormitory and causes a panic, Satoshi faces the new dean himself, asking the reason of his arrival. When Fumio appears and confront Azami and disclosed that he's formerly from Polaris, Satoshi also added that he made a research about his identity, revealing that he's a former Third Seat in his first-year, and later on, the First Seat the following year, and then joined the Nakiri Family after graduation.[46]
A few days later, Azami summoned Satoshi to his office. Because he already knew why he had been called upon, Satoshi remained unfazed when Azami relieved him of his position in the Elite Ten Council.[47] However, despite losing his seat in the Elite Ten Council, he had managed to establish a few failsafe rules in order to prevent cheating in any future Shokugekis, which he referred to as Isshiki Rules.[48]

Satoshi was removed from the Elite Ten by Azami
Due to Sōma and his classmates' conducting reconnaissance, Satoshi returned to the dorm and found nobody, except for Erina who was surprised at the Seventh Seat suddenly appearing on her ceiling. Satoshi later learned from Erina the reason that everyone is gone, and understood it. He nonchalantly mentioned that Alice Nakiri has a scheduled Shokugeki later that day, shocking Erina. Satoshi then invited to her to go with him and check out her cousin's battle.[49]

Satoshi and Erina learned of Alice being a Cooking Society Captain
En route to Shokugeki Hall D, Satoshi found out why Alice was targeted by Central, she is the captain of Cutting-Edge Cooking Society. Satoshi then mentioned that Erina is very concerned about her, which she denied, but he insists that despite their current stance with each other, it's clear that their familial bonds are still strong.[50]
Promotion Exams Arc[]

Satoshi prepares for the Promotion Exam
On the day the 92nd generation students were heading to Hokkaido, Fumio asked if Satoshi was planning on going too. Satoshi affirmed, saying that his dormmates would need his help in the upcoming battles ahead.[51] Before the events of Régiment de Cuisine, Satoshi made contact with Gin Dojima, Joichiro Yukihira, and Senzaemon Nakiri. Together, they planned to lure Azami into accepting the Team Shokugeki and it worked perfectly. Satoshi reveals this all to Sōma over a phone call and then revealed that he's on his way to Hokkaido to join Sōma's team.[52]

Satoshi accepts Sōma's invitation to join his team
At some point during the one month training for Régimnent de Cuisine, Satoshi was told by Sōma that his cooking specialty is family restaurant cooking which Satoshi agreed with as this skill will allow him to create dishes that not even Elite Ten members can come up with. Satoshi then give his underclassmen an advice that he should also train how to deal with what the Elite Ten specialized in so he can be more prepared when facing then.[53]

Satoshi participates in the First Bout
After a month of preparation, the Régiment de Cuisine have officially started, with Satoshi officially revealing himself as a member of Sōma's group, to the surprise of both the Central and Rebels. When the 3-vs-3 format have been decided, Satoshi, alongside Tosuke, the former Third Seat, and his underclassmen, Sōma Yukihira, joined the First Bout.[54]
The expelled 92nd generation students were glad to see Satoshi participate in the battle. Ryoko then asked Satoshi if he would be expelled along with everyone if their team loses. Satoshi merely replied that fear of being expelled was not enough to keep him from fighting, though even if he loses he already had a backup plan to start a business.[55]

Angered by the new Eighth Seat's insults towards Polaris, Satoshi decides that he will crush his opponent
During his prep period, Satoshi decided to observe Sōma as he prepared his soba noodles while his charcoal grill was heating up. Recalling their times training in Polar Star, Satoshi ignited Sōma's spirit. However, Julio Shiratsu, the newly appointed Eighth Seat, Satoshi's opponent for Régiment de Cuisine, with the theme being eel, was frustrated at Satoshi for not taking their duel seriously and even more so for not even remembering who he was, despite being a fellow 91st generation student. As Satoshi casually returned to his station, Julio could not comprehend why someone of his caliber was aligned with the Rebels rather than Central, even stating that the Polar Star Dormitory was holding him back. Upon hearing this, Satoshi promptly silenced him and immediately filet the belly of a live eel with a single stroke, stunning the crowd into silence. Angered by his insults Julio flung at his beloved dorm, Satoshi promised to go all out against him.[56]

Satoshi told Nene that she will lose to Sōma
Erina explains Satoshi's origins, causing Satoshi and Nene to reminisce about their childhood together. Nene encourages Satoshi to win his battle so they can have a proper match in the second round. While Satoshi tells her that is may not come true if he loses to Julio, she tells him that she knows that the only reason she held the higher seat in the Elite Ten Council is because he did not try. Satoshi calmly informs her that she will not have their "fated" duel as Sōma will defeat her in the first round.[57]
During the judging phase of Sōma and Nene's battle, Satoshi called for Sōma before he presents his dish and asks if that's his answer to the challenge. As he watches Sōma managed to pleased the judges, he felt proud of the boy surpassing his expectations.[58] True to his prediction, Sōma pulled off a stunning win over Nene, as Satoshi knew that Nene's insistence on following the Kinokuni protocol of making Soba would lead to her downfall.[59]

Satoshi won his match in the First Bout
Left to finish his own match, Julio presented to the judges first and was well received. Satoshi promised to give him a proper attack himself, stating that he had a few special ingredients to perfect his dish.[60] The imprisoned Polar Star student noticed that the ingredients that he was highlighting were prototype ingredients that they had been making. Though upset by his theft, Satoshi brought them together to create Hitsumabushi: Polar Star Flavor. Despite the random qualities of the ingredients, Satoshi's hitsumabushi brought out the best of each ingredient, even highlighting why each was better in their current state than their regular versions. Satoshi handed the final version of his dish, complete with eel-liver soup to Julio, demanding that he eat it. Julio could not comprehend why Satoshi was breaking away from Japanese cuisine norms. Satoshi merely stated that he is not a Japanese cuisine specialist, but merely a developer of his own style. Julio scarfed down Satoshi's dish and promptly apologized for his previous statements, leading to Satoshi's victory.[61]

Satoshi, alongside Sōma and Tosuke, wins the First Bout
Shortly after, the third fight between Tosuke Megishima and Shoko Kaburagi ended with a complete victory for the Rebel side.[62]
For the Second Bout of the Regiment de Cuisine, Satoshi did not participate and instead watched the matches on the sideline. Unfortunately, the Rebels suffered a complete defeat in this bout but thanks to Erina, the Rebel's leader, passionate declaration, as well as Sōma passing his trust to him, the Rebel group remains strong. For the Third Bout, Satoshi did not participate for the Third Bout as Sōma Yukihira, Megumi Tadokoro, and Takumi Aldini decided to take part instead.[63]
The next day, before the start of the Third Bout, the Rebels are hanging out together in the hotel, with the expelled students helping the chefs that will be competing to prepare. The new Third Seat, Momo Akanegakubo then arrived to the surprise of the rebels but her being chatty is even more surprising, Satoshi explained that Momo is actually a talkative girl beneath her stoic face. When Momo started giving nicknames to the chefs she just meet, Satoshi's inner thoughts revealed that cutesy nicknames is her way of looking down on everyone else with inferior rankings compared to her.[64]

Satoshi hears Momo giving cute nicknames and is aware of the meaning of it
In the middle of the intensity of the Third Bout, when Sōma and Momo argue over the status of their remaining fighters, Satoshi agrees that this bout is the most critical of all bouts thus far as losing will be a cause for massive disadvantage, but he trusts that the first-years will be able to pull through it.[65]
During the judging phase of Takumi and Etsuya's battle, Satoshi explains how the latter is extremely skilled in the art of food manipulation, which comes from his experience from countless consultations that have been done.[66] The deliberation then ended with Takumi's victory, with Satoshi smiling at the result. His focus shifts then onto the next match-up that will undergo judging, a match between Megumi Tadokoro and Momo Akanegakubo.[67]

Satoshi, and Takumi's, reaction to Megumi crying after her defeat
At the judging, the judges concluded that Momo's dish is superior compared to Megumi, but while her supporters are in distress, Satoshi retains his neutral expression.[68] When it turns out that Megumi's dish have more to it that surprised the judges, Satoshi smiled. Unfortunately, it's not enough to defeat Momo and thus she lost, and as she cries in front of Erina, Satoshi decides to be silent but emphatic otherwise.[69]

Satoshi faces Eishi Tsukasa in the Fourth Bout
The last match of the bout, Sōma against Somei Saito, then begun with the Fourth Seat serving his dish first. The way he crafted his dish made everyone amazed and Satoshi's juniors asked how was he able to do that which Satoshi answered truthfully.[70] Sōma's dish however didn't fall behind and was received extremely well, with Satoshi saying that his dish was not merely made during training but during his entire days as a Totsuki student, resulting in his victory.[71]
After the Third Bout, the Rebels are now preparing for the Fourth Bout, with Satoshi saying it's time for him to return to fight.[72] His opponent then for the Fourth Bout is the strongest chef for the Central, Eishi Tsukasa, the current First Seat.[73]

Satoshi revealed that he won't become a cool that he is today if not for Nene
In his duel against Eishi, Satoshi remain cooking gleefully to the surprise of his juniors as his opponent is the First Seat. During his preparation phase, Satoshi and Nene are having conversation with the Sixth Seat saying he cannot defeat Eishi but Satoshi refuted it. Nene's self-deprecation was not go unnoticed by Satoshi. Later on, Satoshi revealed what he will be making, a traditional Japanese soup with the hare as the main ingredient, surprising everyone in the arena as he decided to a combine a very pungent meat with a very delicate soup. But despite his junior's complains, he proceeds with his dish and completed it, the Isshiki Special Wanmono Soup, then served it to the judges. To the surprise of the judges, Satoshi's soup remains it's pure smell with the not overpowering it in the slightest. While the judging phase of his dish is ongoing, Satoshi noticed Nene looking sharply at him so he talked to her, bringing up even their childhood. When Nene teared up as she view herself incompetent when compared to her, Satoshi responded that she shouldn't think that way, and revealed that the reason he keeps cooking is because of her.[74]

Satoshi tells Nene of his great respect for her
When asked by Nene what he means by it, Satoshi revealed his past first, and explained that the pressure from his family made him not enjoy cooking at all. That is until he was invited in her household and saw how beautiful Nene while practicing her craft. Because of that, Satoshi finds cooking fun again which turn him into what he is now. Satoshi then said how much he truly respects her and he wish that she once again find cooking fun again, like him. Meanwhile, his dish recieved immense praise from the judges, which also mentioned to might be powerful enough to even defeat Eishi Tsukasa.[75]

Satoshi was defeated by Eishi
Satoshi and Nene's conversation will then be interrupted by Eishi Tsukasa who decided to recruit Satoshi to join Central. Satoshi just laughed it off while Eishi stated that he has until the end of judging to decide. Eishi then took his turn and serving his dish and while it is indeed great, judges considers Satoshi's dish to be superior but further deliberation made them realized that Eishi's dish has more to it and resulted in his victory over Satoshi. Somehow, Satoshi was stripped into loincloth, but declared either way that he has no intention to join Central and thus refused the First Seat's offer. Nene then come to him and said that Eishi is truly unbeatable but once again, Satoshi believed otherwise. Satoshi then leave everything else to his teammates to finish.[76]
For final match of the Fourth Bout, Azami Nakiri decided to change the panel of judges, inserting himself and one member of WGO that is in favor of Central. This causes a big outrage, but when Sōma considered it an opportunity to directly hit Azami with his cooking, Satoshi smiled.[77]

Satoshi's reactions to Sōma and Erina arguing
At the end of Fourth Bout, with Takumi losing, the next bout is suggested to be a final one, a two-on-two presenting a two-course meal. Sōma and Erina then spend the night preparing, with Satoshi, alongside Takumi, Megumi, and Terunori, helping them.[78]
During the preparation for the Final Bout, Satoshi just laughed as Sōma and Erina argue with each other about who's doing the main course. When Sōma brought out his best dishes which is good for a main course, Satoshi was intrigued. When their argument is over, Satoshi was asked by Sōma on what the Central means with the statement that Erina is their key, Satoshi answered that it's because she possesses the God's Tongue, an ability that can accurately tell the status of the dish, and therefore, the ultimate guide for Central's idea of gourmet.[79]

Satoshi stands with his teammates in victory
The next day, it turns out that the preparation is nowhere near finished for Erina and Sōma, and Satoshi had to explain the reasons why to his juniors.[80] After that, the battle has officially started, and Satoshi looks at Sōma and Erina, who just finished their argument about who's making the main course, with a confident smile.[81]
During the tasting of Eishi Tsukasa and Rindo Kobayashi's two-course meal, Azami's reaction leads him to releasing his Blessing, a disrobing technique of the Nakiri Family that he inherited. Satoshi brought out towels to hand over to the affected members of Rebels and then criticized Azami's forceful undressing.[82]
Afterwards, Satoshi spent his time watching his teammate's battle, witnessing their absurd but playful cooking together.[83] He then commented on Erina's dish choice of main dish, saying that Erina's change will not please Azami at all.[84] And as Erina revealed her final addition to the dish, Satoshi just smiled watching it.[85]
After a long battle, the Rebels have won the Regiment de Cuisine and thus overthrowing Central successfully.[86] In the midst of aftermath, Satoshi was approached by Eishi, who was asked how Sōma and Erina was able to create such a dish despite their clashing personalities, Satoshi answered that it must be because the two chefs are the one having the most fun in the arena that they are able to pull through.[87]
Les Cuisinier Noirs Storyline[]
Hot Spring Investigation Arc[]

Satoshi interrogating a Noir
After successfully defeating Central, the Rebels effectively replace the members of the Elite Ten, with Satoshi earning the Second Seat, and four months later, he also made it to his Third Year in Totsuki.[88]

Satoshi in meeting regarding a Noir chef who called himself Saiba
With the recent increase of activities from Les Cuisinier Noir, an illegal group of chefs, Elite Ten members have been dispatched to various locations to find them, capture them, and squeeze out information. Satoshi is sent in Kanazawa, Castle Town, and Satoshi successfully carried his mission.[89]
The next day, a meeting with the Headmaster is conducted, and Nene participated to discuss the affiliation of Joichiro Yukihira with the Noirs. When asked by other members of Elite Ten on who's the man is, Satoshi answered and revealed his story, leaving them in surprise.[90]
Epilogue[]
At 26, Satoshi has gained his independence when he was the first in the Isshiki family's long history to be granted permission to establish his own branch restaurant. He's currently gaining popularity in Kyoto culinary circles as a master of blending the traditional with the fresh and new.[91]
Cooking Style[]

The Ultimate in Aggressive Japanese Cuisine
Satoshi-Style Cuisine - Satoshi's cooking style is rooted in traditional Japanese cuisine that are passed down through the prestigious Isshiki family. However, Satoshi does not adhere strictly to Japanese cuisine norms. He has shown a wide breadth of knowledge from all sorts of cuisine styles and frequently blends these into his Japanese cuisine dishes. Such styles of mixing different genres then has him criticized by both his clan and other member of the student bodies, but despite that, he continues to do so, and even managed to be one of the ten best students in the whole academy.
As Anne, a first class bookman for the WGO, has stated, Satoshi's level of knowledge of how his ingredients work together far exceeds that of a high school student.
In the beginning, Satoshi's true skill was deceptive, as he was able to match Sōma in skill in their very first battle after he was accepted into Polar Star. Ibusaki noted that Satoshi winged his dish and was not even remotely serious. Nene also further confirmed that Satoshi is the strongest chef of the 91st Generation, stating that the only reason why she holds the higher seat is due to the fact that he did not even try to take it.
Skills[]

Isshiki slices an eel in blinding speed
- Eel Preparation - Satoshi demonstrated extreme dexterity with a knife when belly-filleting an eel despite the freshness of it, a particularly difficult skill for even the most seasoned chefs. Even the seafood expert Ryo Kurokiba noted that it seemed as if the eel had to realize that it had been cut before bleeding out.
Miscellaneous Skills[]
- Professional-level Ping Pong - Satoshi is an incredibly skilled Ping Pong player and is one of the best players in the Polar Star Dormitory along with Megumi. Satoshi can compete toe-to-toe with Megumi who is widely considered to be already a professional by many athletic scouting organizations. He specializes in cuts and chops in his play style.
- Astute Learner- Satoshi is particularly observant, able to effortlessly learn a wide variety of skills in a short period of time, even in activities outside of cooking.
Dishes[]
Original Dishes[]

Pepper Mackrel with a Purée Garnish
- Pepper-Grilled Seer Fish with Spring Cabbage Puree - Satoshi cooked this dish to welcome Sōma into Polar Star and challenge him to an unofficial duel. Using a combination of a spring cabbage purée and a perfectly prepared seasonal mackerel, he created a harmonious blend of flavors that embodied the feeling of spring.

Hitsumabushi Polar Star Flavor
- Hitsumabushi: Polar Star Dorm Flavor - This dish was created by Satoshi against Julio Shiratsu during the 2nd Card of the 1st Bout of the Rebels Vs. Central Régiment de Cuisine. In response to Julio Shiratsu insulting his beloved kouhai, Satoshi crafted this take on the Hitsumabushi dish by integrating ingredients that he stole from each of the imprisoned 92nd Tōtsuki Generation Polar Star Residents to show just how talented they are. From the risotto using sansho peppers, cheese (made by Yuki Yoshino & Ikumi Mito) and walnut smoked garlic chips (made by Shun Ibusaki, Daigo Aoki and Shoji Sato) to the eel liver soup created with the walnut smoked garlic chips (made by Shun Ibusaki, Daigo Aoki and Shoji Sato), olive oil, sake (made by Ryoko Sakaki & Zenji Marui) and dried bonito stock. Despite the flaws of each of the individual ingredients, Satoshi pulled them together and brought out the best quality in each one, creating a Hitsumabushi unlike any created before.

Japanese Wild rabbit soup
- Isshiki Special Wanmono Soup - This dish was created by Satoshi against Eishi Tsukasa during the 2nd Card of the 4th Bout of the Rebels Vs. Central Régiment de Cuisine. A traditional, clear Japanese soup known as a suimono served in traditional lacquer bowls. In order to address the challenge of incorporating wild rabbit in the dish similar to Sōma's Mincemeat Katsu. The soup or Suiji which is 7 parts rabbit-infused first dashi that contains kombu, water and wild rabbit meat, the other 3 parts uses clam juice. Satoshi wraps the meat with miso paste inside mochi to make it a Wan-dane for a tasty surprise! Once opened, the soup will change into a hearty miso soup, something unprecedented within conventional Japanese cuisine.
Clubs[]
- Elite Ten Council - Prior to the Azami administration, Satoshi held the Seventh Seat of the Elite Ten Council, which he lost when he opposed Azami Nakiri. After the Rebels won at the Régiment de Cuisine, he regained a seat and has been promoted to the Second Seat.

Trivia[]
- Satoshi ranked 8th in the first popularity poll with 412 votes.[92] He ranked 10th in the second popularity poll with 1422 votes.<ref>Shokugeki no Sōma chapter 121/ref>
- Satoshi (慧) literally means "wisdom", reflecting his nature as the senior of the Polar Star Dormitory. Isshiki (一色) means "one color".
- Ever the eccentric, Isshiki has a few other questionable habits other than walking around half-naked. He has particular habit of using the ceiling area of Polar Star Dormitory to travel around, often much to the annoyance of his underclassmen. Isshiki has also used Polar Star's tube-shaped speakers that connect different rooms to call his dorm-mates at sometimes rather unorthodox times of day, mainly Megumi Tadokoro.
- Just like Joichiro, Isshiki has held the Seventh Seat of the Elite Ten in his second year and was promoted to Second Seat shortly before his third year. Both were also considered the true top chef of their generation.
