Lawless Area is the 7th chapter of Shokugeki no Soma.
Plot Summary[]
After Sōma finishes taking a bath, he enters his room and lies in bed. However, he sees someone who appeared through the ceiling panel and invited him to come for a welcoming party. Zenji tells everyone that he's studying for a written exam and have a party in another room, but Yūki remarks that his room is the biggest.
Megumi is surprised that Sōma passed the entrance skill test on his first try, but she's also depressed due to the fact that it took her three months to enter the dorm. The person who invited Sōma, Satoshi Isshiki, checks if everyone is here, but Daigo and Shōji complain about him telling them to gather up almost everday as they're tired of it. Satoshi mentions Megumi always participating, but that's because he'd wake her up if she didn't come, to which Ryōko tells Megumi that Satoshi would give up if she ignored him. Satoshi tells everyone to enjoy life and welcomes Sōma.
When Ryōko pours a drink for Sōma, he asks if it's okay to make noise, and she answers that the dorm is surrounded by the forest. Worrying that Fumio will hear the commotion, Sōma is surprised that she's okay with it when he hears her preparing a dish for everyone through the speakers. Upon hearing the Elite Ten, Sōma questions what it is. So the Tōtsuki Elite Ten Council is a committee formed by the best ten students and makes decisions for many affairs, and during the golden age of the dorm, a lot of the ten came from Polar Star Dormitory. As the residents are enjoying the party, Shun brings his Smoked Cheese and Three Types of Jerky dish. Daigo also brings his Vegetable Fritters dish, claiming it to be tasty, but Shōji mentions the fried shrimp he made last week were better, leading the two to argue. Yūki intervenes to stop them, but the duo anger her by complaining her room smells like wild animals. In retaliation, Yūki prepares to cook a dish, forcing Megumi to have to calm her down in order to prevent one of her animals from being needlessly slaughtered. When Sōma brings out his dish, Shōji tries it, but it's revealed to be a Grilled Squid Tentacles Dressed in Honey, much to Yūki's laughter.
As the residents continue to party, Fumino is seen drinking alone, commenting on how the only two things that never change are the students’ laughter and the stars gathering around the moon. After everyone else has fallen asleep, Sōma and Satoshi are the only ones awake. Satoshi lends Sōma his Pepper Mackerel with a Purée Garnish, and Sōma is amazed after taking a bite of it. When Satoshi tells Sōma he heard what he said in the opening ceremony, he reminds him that aiming for the top isn't that easy, revealing himself as the 7th seat of the Elite Ten Council. Furthermore, Satoshi wants to try Sōma's dish.

- The cover of this chapter reveals the notable residents' room positions in the Polar Star Dormitory with the room holder's respective mugshots. However, Ryōko Sakaki, despite being considerably important, is missing.
- Despite being introduced alongside most of her roommates, Ryōko Sakaki's name and room number were not revealed in this chapter. It is only revealed in Chapter 14.
- The same could be said for Daigo Aoki and Shōji Satō. Their names were revealed very much later on the back cover of Volume 9.
