Alumni is the 22nd chapter of the Shokugeki no Soma series. This chapter focuses on the precedings of the Yukihira-Tadokoro Vs. Shinomiya Shokugeki.
Plot Summary[]
The rest of the students are shocked by hearing Sōma challenging Kojirō to a Shokugeki. However, Kojirō declines, due to needing the approval of both parties, and says Megumi's expulsion is already set. Gin suddenly appears with Hinako, finding the challenge interesting.
Hinako is fascinated by Megumi's dish after taking a bite, and she complains to Kojirō for not letting her pass and starts provoking him. Angered, he grabs Hinako by the head, and she quickly apologizes before he lets her go. Kojirō talks to Gin about the assignment being entrusted to him. Gin agrees about it, but he's not with what Kojirō established and wants him to reconsider Megumi for handling the situation. However, Kojirō bluntly refuses while Hinako interferes for Megumi, making this a tie. So Gin declares an unofficial Shokugeki after the camp schedule. Kojirō starts to question Gin, but he reluctantly accepts after Gin makes him comply. Before he leaves for the assignment, Kojirō will take back Megumi's expulsion if Sōma wins, but they'll both be fired if he loses.
As they walk, Sōma assures Megumi to do their best to pass. But he sees her glaring at him with tears, scolding him for being reckless to make a challenge. Megumi tells Sōma that he passed and should've left her alone before lowering herself to the ground. Sōma mentions Megumi's dialect, embarrassing her, before getting her to stand up for the next assignment. Megumi confirms that even though Sōma is always saving her, she ends up involving him in this situation. As she's unable to apologize to him, Megumi tells Sōma not to involve himself with her problem. However, Sōma explains to Megumi that she shouldn't drop out.
At Tōtsuki villa lobby, Ryōko and Yūki look for Megumi, but no avail as she's not in her room or answering her phone. They start to worry while her name is not on the disqualification list. Ryōko suggests asking some of the students who took the same assignment as Megumi, but Yūki recalls that she's with Sōma. Remembering that they got involved with the Don RS and had a Shokugeki a while ago, Ryōko and Yūki start to have a bad feeling about it.
At Tōtsuki villa's annex, Sōma and Megumi enter the basement's kitchen to face Kojirō with no disturbance. Surprisingly, Gin has brought the Alumni (Fuyumi, Donato, and Hitoshi) as judges since Hinako couldn't be impartial, with the sign on her saying she's just a spectator as she's tied up on a chair. With an unofficial Shokugeki starting, Donato wonders about Roland if he finds out, and Hitoshi tells him that he'll be angry. Fuyumi will run if Roland finds out and make it Kojirō's fault, and he hears her out of anger.
Gin announces a 2-vs-1 casual match for a vegetable themed dish. In Megumi's thoughts, she's prepared to support Sōma in order not to have both of them expelled. However, Gin makes a condition of making Megumi the lead chef. Upon hearing this, Megumi and Sōma are shocked before the match starts.
