Megumi's Garden is the 14th chapter of the Shokugeki no Soma series.

Plot Summary[]

Roland is seen discussing with the other teachers about the season of the year has come again in the building. Getting asked about the students getting notified, Roland remarks that some will stand out and some will drop out.

At the Polar Star Dormitory, Shun is seen cutting wood. Inside, Satoshi wakes Sōma up for something to help with, but Sōma is sleepy due to staying up late and tells him to go with someone else. However, Satoshi appears through the ceiling panel and gets Sōma ready. Sōma walks with Yūki as they talk about Satoshi growing his own ingredients. Yūki explains to Sōma that Shun cuts wood to use for smoking, Ryōko has her own workshop since her specialty in cooking is shiokouji, and she herself grazes and raises chicken. Sōma sees Satoshi working in the field in his fundoshi, to much Sōma and Yūki's shock.

Megumi is seen holding a basket of vegetables she picked as Sōma and Yūki compliment her being suitable. Satoshi lends Sōma a tomato to have a bite, and it tastes great, wanting a stock of them at home. During working hours, Megumi brings Three Kinds of Onigiri to the residents, and they taste delicious after eating them. She also brings barley tea and roasted green tea to drink. Suddenly, when Sōma questions Megumi for not making the dishes in class like she just made today, she admits having stage fright, so he tells her to relax when cooking.

Inside the Polar Star Dormitory, the residents see a guidebook about the Friendship and Rapport Training Lodging. When Sōma asks what it is and why is Megumi trembling, Yūki answers that it's a training camp, but it's hell where the first year students are assigned with rigorous training in the mountains and immediately get expelled if they can't get passing marks. Satoshi remarks it as Tōtsuki's competitive education as the director would say the "jewel" selection has begun. Getting asked for entering the training camp, Satoshi confirms that he did, and he admits that a dozen students were expelled every day as it's truly severe. Shun points out the number of students was reduced less than a half after that training camp after a few years ago, causing Megumi to fall on the ground. Megumi thanks everyone until now as she passes out, and Yūki shouts her name out of despair.

As Sōma opens the guidebook, he discovers that card decks and shogi are allowed while portable game consoles are prohibited. He also complains about the bath time being too short. When Yūki questions Sōma for being careless while Megumi has said her last words, he says they have to be in the half to survive. Satoshi is confident that the Polar Star residents will come back while he and Fumio will take care of the dorm, and he tells them to do their best, much to Ryōko's agreement. Yūki says they are so fearsome even kids stop crying and will clear the training camp with ease, confusing Shun after hearing kids stop crying. At the Nakiri Mansion, Erina is seen looking at the Friendship and Rapport Training Lodging guidebook.

Some days later in the early morning, the Polar Star residents, Erina, Hisako, Ikumi, and everyone else are ready to enter the buses for the Friendship and Rapport Training Lodging.
